| The inaugural Wicken Green Spectacular 2002 Mini Soccer Tournament for
the Under 10's brought a much deserved success to Wells Town Under 10's on March 30th. Teams from the Fakenham area contested for the Wicken Green Shield and the chance to win an AXA sponsored England Strip.
Wells introduced Liam Walden and Liam Pink for their first competitive games.
Dereham were the first opponents. Wells played James Batchelor in goal. A closely contested game finished 2-2. For the remaining games Pascal Walker played in goal and James Batchelor became the lone striker. Well's confidence and understanding improved game by game. Victories over Fakenham, Hindolveston and Mini Ghosts took them to a much deserved final.
The excellent defensive pairing of Nina Batchelor and Ryan Pink was supported
by Yiotis Alamanos, For Joshua Vertigan the excitement proved too much and after attention from the St John Ambulance took no further part. The substitutes were used regularly and both Liam Pink and Walden scored their first competitive goals. The final against Dereham is a testament to the Wells Under 10's improvement over this season. Sound defensive work backed up by the organised midfield and in James Batchelor a natural striker, the game finished in a 4-2 victory. The ecstatic Wells team wearing their England kit received the trophy and the added bonus of being photographed with the F.A. Cup.
