Wells Beach is privately owned and operated.
Wells beach has beach lifeguards from 10.00am to 6.00pm each day during the
school summer holiday.
Email Sept2002 from Holkham Estate reference dogs on Wells and Holkham
Beaches:
Dogs are allowed on Holkham and Wells beaches all year round subject to certain
restrictions.
An area of Wells beach is kept dog free so that people can dig in the sand
without fear of finding something unpleasant.
At nesting time areas of the beach are roped off to protect nesting birds
and people are asked to keep dogs on leads for the same reason.
Holkham beach has the same seasonal restrictions. Dog owners are asked to
keep dogs on leads until they get on to the beach and clear up any mess.
There are those that would like more restrictions, the whole area is a
National Nature Reserve and I cannot believe that there are many NNR's with
so few restrictions. I have to say that if people with dogs adopt an
irresponsible attitude then we along with English Nature would have to consider
further controls. I am sure you are aware that there are many beaches in
this country where no dogs are allowed at all.
